Football-Syle Protest Did Rugby No Favours

Right-thinking sports fans (well, ones like me, anyway) instinctively recoil at the sight of footballers manhandling referees and screaming into their faces. Such aggressive public behaviour quite clearly shows contempt for authority, brings the game into disrepute and sets a horrendous example for the thousands of youngsters who idolise these overpaid egos in boots.

What's the Revised Cost Benefit Value? ; Letters

It will be interesting to see and hear what the response will be to Cllr Curran's request to explain the so-called "two-minute saving" in time for the BRT scheme. Will the council explain what it meant before the Western Riverside was put on hold for the foreseeable future, or what it might mean now? The council should also publish what the revised cost benefit value is following the route change around the Western Riverside site along the existing roads and bus routes.

The Chesil Beach, Dorset ; Poems...

The mighty roaring Chesil Beach So very often out of reach, Eighteen miles from old West Bay To Chesil Cove, so far away. A golden scythe blade in the sunlight Reaching fifty feet in height, At Abbotsbury the pebbles are mere shingle How your feet will, surely tingle! At Portland the stones become gigantic All swept in from the wild Atlantic Walk this beach on a clear fine night When a billion stars come into sight. Phantom fishermen may appear But never need for any fear, Ten thousand souls ...

Let's Keep Bath Christmas Market As a Local Success Story ; Letters

As one of the first people on the consultive committee on the Bath Christmas Market when it was planned, I would like to make a few points about why I am angry that Bath Tourism Plus (BTP) has agreed to give the catering rights to an out-of-town fir m. The ethos of the Christmas Market in those early stages was to give the local traders the priority. In fact, local restaurants were asked to take the risk in the first place as no one knew what was the success rate would be. In later years they...

Mal Webb

Ferebee On Top After Win

APPROACH GOLF Dave Ferebee overcame tough opposition from Geoff Curnock to edge to victory and retain top spot in Division 1. Both players finished in under nett par and Ferebee only won on the last hole after Curnock fought his way back from three down. Terry Selway remains on course to retain his title but his win over Brian Woodford was far from easy. Selway made the decisive break on the front nine, where he gained a three-hole lead.

TENNIS Kingswood School's pupils were a smash at the Independent Schools' Tennis Association Competition as they won the Clark Trophy. The quartet of Tom Searle, Sam Williams, Nick Sheppard and Ruslan Khazarchiev were disappointed to lose 2-0 to a very strong RGS Newcastle in the main Youll Cup contest at Eton.
