Summary
TOOLSTATION PREMIER Larkhall Athletic returned to the top of the table - for 24 hours at least - after grinding out a 1-0 win at lowly Welton Rovers on Tuesday. Nat Auckland's superb glancing header in the 35th minute was the difference between the two sides. The visitors had captain Jonny Davoile sent off for two bookable offences just before the break but Welton were unable to take advantage and lost Andy Forward to a red card as their frustration mounted. The Larks had also been forced to work hard for the three points on Saturday by a defensive Longwell Green Sports side, whose keeper was in impressive form. He saved well from Tyler Sibbick and Ben Horan during a goalless first half but was eventually beaten when the latter headed home a Jamie Lyons cross just after the break. Sibbick was denied again when his thunderous drive rattled the crossbar but Larkhall made the points safe when Gary Banks finished off a fine move involving Horan, Davoile and Auckland. Larkhall have a free weekend but return to league action on Tuesday with a visit to lowly Brislington. Odd Down's disappointing start to 2011 came to an end on Tuesday as they thrashed Sherborne Town 4-0. Matty Rawlins converted Brad Newman's cross for the only goal of the first half but the lead was doubled a minute after the break when Jamie Taylor netted from close range. Rawlins doubled his tally with 15 minutes to go and full-back Chris Peck put the icing on the cake with a classy finish from 18 yards. The result and performance made amends for Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Bristol Manor Farm, which came despite the Downers producing a dominant first-half display. It was capped by a stunning strike from Taylor, who latched on to a poor goal kick and returned it with interest from ten yards inside the opposition However, they could not find a second goal and paid the price as the hosts produced a much-improved showing after the break.
Danny Maye levelled from the penalty spot and Tony Perry put them ahead with a quick free-kick before Troy Simpson completed the Downers' demise. Odd Down face a tough test this weekend when they visit form team Wells City, who have won six of their last eight league games. That run has taken Wells above Corsham Town, who have slid down to ninth after three successive league defeats.See the full content of this document
