Kieswetter Is Back On Song - Trescothick

Summary

Marcus Trescothick believes Craig Kieswetter is back in form for England's upcoming Twenty20 matches against Pakistan. The Somerset wicketkeeper has been retained in the squad for the two Twenty20 internationals in Cardiff on Sunday and Tuesday. Kieswetter experienced a mid-season dip in form with the bat after he returned from England duty against Australia and Bangladesh. That led to doubts over whether the 22-year-old would be retained, especially as Surrey and England Lions keeper Steven Davies was in rampant for m. But Kieswetter scored 79 and 107 in the CB40 over the weekend, the century against Worcestershire at New Road showcasing the best of the youngster's powerful driving. "It was good to see him back in form," said Trescothick. "We saw how well he played against Surrey and he continued his form on a tougher wicket, so all credit to him." England coach Andy Flower has asked Kieswetter to play for Somerset in their one-day friendly with Pakistan at Taunton today. Kieswetter said: "Batting over the last couple of weeks has felt similar to last year when I felt in the best for m." The three Pakistan players at the centre of the spot-fixing allegations look certain to be absent from the tour match, however.

Test captain Salman Butt and seamers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were due to be questioned in London yesterday by Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt and his country's high commissioner. That would have clarified the trio's position ahead of the match at Taunton but the meeting was pushed back 24 hours and will now take place at the same time as the teams are due to be on the field. Somerset, meanwhile, could hand debuts to three teenagers against the tourists.
