If you have your heart set on a hybrid, this Touareg is one of the better examples of its ilk. For those who are a little less committed, the attractions of the Hybrid are debatable, especially when compared to the excellent diesels offered elsewhere in the Touareg line up.
Perhaps this is indeed the shape of things to come - at least for the foreseeable future. When petrol electric hybrid cars were first introduced, most expected them to be a passing fad but since the Toyota Prius was launched in 1997, the hybrid market has ballooned and it looks likely that they'll be with us for a while yet.
