Mozartfest Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary

Summary

Bath's popular Mozartfest, now the city's premier classical music forum comes of age in November with its 20th birthday and 21st festival. The nine day programme which is launched this week features, as usual some of the greatest musicians in the world - some of whom will be playing at the festival for the first time and some who are returning to one of this country's top music festivals.

The list of visiting musicians reads like a who's who of world class musicians starting with the Emerson String Quartet which opens the festival on November 11 and includes pianist Alfred Brendel, The Sixteen with counter tenor Robin Blaze, cellist Steven Isserlis, pianist Imogen Cooper, tenor Mark Padmore, the Nash Ensemble, The Cardinall's Musick and finally with a grand end of festival concert on the Saturday The Halle - making its first visit to Bath apparently - conducted by Sir Mark Elder and featuring pianist Imogen Cooper who will be playing Mozart's Concerto No 18. The evening will include some delicious pieces by Mendelssohn as well as Dvorak's Symphony No 9. The first Saturday see's conductor Harry Christophers with his fabulous The Sixteen and while there is no Mozart in this one there are two Purcell works as well as pieces by Handel.
