People of the Year

Summary

Man of the Year WINNER ANDREW BROWNSWORD After stepping down in the summer as chairman of Bath Rugby - a job he took on more out of love for the city than for the sport and one he rarely got the credit for - Andrew has been able to spend more time with his many community and charity interests. His ongoing generosity has certainly boosted many local charities including, most recently, the Forever Friends' Space to Grow campaign. In his own quiet, low- profile way, Andrew makes a huge and positive impact on Bath life.

RUNNERS-UP BRUCE CRAIG The man who bought the rugby club from Andrew Brownsword has brought energy and vision as well as money to The Rec and the new training facilities at Farleigh Hungerford, and clearly thinks big.

People of the Year

ANDREW COOPER Another successful year for Bath's high-profile and popular city centre manager. He successfully led the campaign to turn the centre of Bath into a business improvement district, which it is hoped will have long-term benefits for the city and all its retailers.

GRENVILLE JONES You just can't keep a good man down and this year Grenville has continued his one-man campaign to teach the city to sing. Just as importantly, his Time After Time initiative to bring young and old together through the power of music earned him well- deserved credit throughout the community. GREG INGHAM Greg has successfully put Bath's growing creative industries firmly on the map by making Creative Bath a force to be reckoned with. His energy and enthusiasm have ensured that the city's creative spark is now firmly acknowledged throughout the council and the community as a whole.

DAVID LAWRENCE A hugely influential council official who has shown real leadership in bringing together and promoting many cultural aspects of the city. He is someone who really gets things done and, crucially, he seems to be very much his own man. RICHARD HALL Ironically, considering his links with the food industry, Mr Hall is a man with fingers in many pies in Bath - and all of them benefit from his wisdom, input and enthusiasm. A highly successful businessman and one who truly puts the city he loves first.

JONATHAN O'SHEA The St John's Hospital chief has kept the important Bath charity very much in the local spotlight and has also had a popular and successful role linking the council with key business leaders through his work on the B&NES Initiative.

GEORGE HARDING At the age of 74, George has just climbed halfway up Everest for his beloved Macmillan charity. His energy and dedication are inspirational. ROB DAVIS A firefighter from Batheaston who thinks nothing of flying halfway ro...
