We have been instructed by the European Union that prisoners must be allowed to vote in elections. Because the Lisbon Treaty incorporated the European Convention on Human Rights this has now become an EU Law and made judgements of the European Court of Human Rights enforceable.
This means that if the UK ignores the judgement, and refuses the right to vote to prisoners, they could take a case to the European Courts of Justice. The ECJ could then fine Britain, and force us to pay all 70,000 prisoners Pounds 750 in compensation.See the full content of this document
