It was the great American Civil War president Abraham Lincoln, who said the wise words: 'You may fool all of the people some of the time; you can even fool some of the people all the time; but you can't fool all of the people all the time'.
I was mindful of this when reading (with much spleen) the now infamous Conservative-wrecking amendment at the recent council meeting when they announced there was to be an 'independent' transport commission for B&NES. Most people sitting in the gallery read this as the typical Conservative blatant and cynical two fingers up at the great Bath public. For how on earth can a transport commission packed with Conservative sympathisers and fellow travellers, like the Federation of Bath Residents' Associations and its ilk, be independent? I could have believed in its 'independence' if its distinguished chairman, Peter Hendy, had insisted on all aspects of the controversial Bath Transportation Package being open to debate as per the answer given to our MP Don Foster in the Commons by the Secretary of State for Transport, Philip Hammond, but it isn't.See the full content of this document
